Course Curriculum
In B.Movie School’s Acting Before the Camera Annual Course we will teach you step by step and in a more profound way how this world works.
The classes will be taught in both English and Spanish, so it will be a unique opportunity to practice the language while you learn and enjoy the experience.
COURSE OBJECTIVE
Our main objective is to introduce you in the most entertaining and didactic way to each activity that we carry out. Therefore, we will give you total freedom so that you can bring to light your creativity and talent while we help and advise you at every step.
WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?
The Acting Before the Camera Course is aimed at young people between 12 and 21 years old who have an interest in the world of acting and want to train in the most practical way possible.
WORK PHILOSOPHY
We offer a working and learning method based on the Learning-by-doing philosophy. The purpose is to improve the student’s skills by developing their creative capacity and stimulating their problem-solving abilities.
From the first moment, practical activities are carried out, thus helping students to take the first step in the audiovisual world while learning about themselves throughout the process.
We approach all courses based on specific projects. This way, we offer a continuous learning program where students see all their work and learning come to fruition.
Contents
- The actor’s work
- The camera
- Work flow
- The silence
- The eyes
- The body
- The feelings
- The different styles
- The industry
To begin, we will teach you what it is to really be an actor, what the work process is and what responsibilities you will have in each project. Once you are aware of this, we will guide you through some main concepts that you must master: how to play between the lines, body language, convey feelings, techniques and styles of character development, etc. And finally, you will learn how this business works and we will show you what you need to know about casting calls, representations, where to look for information and even possible jobs.
Each of the contents and concepts will be studied carefully at the same time that practices will be carried out to complement what has been learned.
PROJECTS
Throughout the courses, we will offer our students several experiences to develop their talent inside and outside of class, all in a practical way to provide them with a constant experience in front of the camera.
In class projects
Through the course, students will have end of quarter projects and an end of course project. These projects will work so that the students apply what they have learned and practiced during classes. For that we propose these projects annually:
- Headshots photo sessions
- Skills development, practical experience and search for castings.
- Presentation video
- Dramatic scene
- Comedy scene
- Action, suspense or horror scene (one of them)
- Short film or pilot episode for a series.
Out of class projects:
- CV development
- Create an online profile as an actor
- Monthly scenes, to create, rehearse and shoot.
- Recreation of iconic film and television scenes.
- Search for castings, prepare and request rules.
Equipment:
We guarantee our students the experience of being part of a professional group, working together with their classmates from other courses and with professionals in different fields of the industry. At the end of the course, each student will have a shared videobook, which includes a presentation video and a collection of their work during the course. The students’ main scenes from last year were shot with the RED EPIC MX 5K camera, the BMPCC 6K camera and the compact ZEISS cp2 professional cinema lens, among other materials.
Distribution to film festivals:
The final student project has a life of festival distribution. Our philosophy is to always consider our students’ projects as our own, and as something that we want to have in our own study plans and, for that, we try to ensure that their project reaches the maximum possible distribution by sending them to festivals and events that best fit the quality of the final result, ensuring your work the recognition it deserves.
Movie theater screening:
As an annual event, we offer our students, their friends and family the opportunity to screen their project for the local community in a professional theater with a minimum capacity of 150 audiences, so you can have the experience of seeing your work on the big screen.
Production platform:
We encourage our students throughout the course to start creating a production platform among themselves, with which we will help them by guiding and supporting them to reach the closest possible level to the work of a newly created production company, in the hope of this becoming the basis for the student to carry out more projects independently or with our sponsorship. On this platform, students brand their production line, run the brand’s social network, create a blog or website for it, submit projects to contests, make a casting call, advance production tasks.
